Masada-Press, 1960. FIRST EDITION, thus, first printing. Scarce regular sized 7 x 9 inches (most all we have ever handled through the years has been the oversized Szyk illustrated Haggadah.) In English and Hebrew. Illustrated with beautiful color plates by Arthur Szyk. Velvet like covers with gilt design and titles. Excellent condition, interior clean and tight throughout, blue plush covers light indentations, Iconic illustrations by Szyk throughout. When the work was first published as a limited edition in 1940 the London Times stated it to be one of the most beautiful books ever produced by the hand of man. Illustrated by the Polish-Jewish artist Arthur Szyk between 1934 and 1936. Szyk's visual commentary on the ancient story of Passover uses the vocabulary and format of an illuminated manuscript; each of his full-page watercolor and gouache illuminations contains the traditional text of the haggadah (in hebrew calligraphy), which is clarified and interpreted by the images and symbols on the same page. Truly a very scarce version of an already scarce and noted illustrated title. Plus, laid in is very rare authentic 1950 Israel issue First Day Cover with Szyk designed stamps and authentic hand signature of the great artist Arthur Syzk.
