Very good condition, gray cloth spine with dark blue lettering and brightly illustrated paper covered boards. Expected edge wear, strong cloth spine and bright lettering. Elephant illustration on the front cover is bright, as is photograph and bio of author Osa Johnson on the rear. Covers are clean, as is the interior, and the binding is tight. Front illustrated endpaper repaired 1"x1" lower corner, small hole on associated half title. Delightful story about a baby elephant discovering his own world, based on the author's experiences with a real elephant. Illustrated in both color and in black and white by Arthur August Jansson. Very scarce first printing, even more so signed by the iconic adventurer and author - who along with her husband, made an indelible mark on adventure narration and ultimately the conservation movement.
