|Publisher||FREDERICK A. STOKES COMPANY|
Frederick A. Stokes Company, n.d. (1936). Fair condition, tightly bound, preliminaries including end and copyright pages removed, light crayon writing on some pages. Red pictorial cloth stamped in black, stains, edge wear. Has color illustrations throughtout. Sambo's adventures continue, in this children's book, when Sambo comes to the rescue of his brother & sister who have been carried off by monkeys. This is the increasingly sought after 90 page first edition, one of several books by Helen Bannerman, author of the original book, that continued the famous story of "Little Black Sambo." The Little Black Sambo stories by Bannerman were a children's favorite for half a century before they became controversial. Many believe that the stories contain politically incorrect stereotypes, and the word "sambo," partly as a result of the Little Black Sambo books, has a long history as a demeaning slur. This is a wonderful continuation of one of the most controversial books in children's literature. This first edition book has become very rare. 90 pages.
