Simon & Schuster, New York, 1946. Hodgins was the publisher of Fortune magazine and editorial vice-president of Time, Inc. when he took a leave of absense to expand this story that he had previously published in Fortune. The story is about a man's attempt to take an inexpensive farm house and build it into his dream house. Five times what he paid for the original house is what his "dream" finally cost him. This is a very funny book which was made into a movie starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy and Melvyn Douglas. William Steig captures the light humor with his cartoon-like illustrations throughout.
