The Game of Authors, or Authors, is a card game for three to five players. A classic literary card game, a favorite for over 130 years among players of all ages. Portraits of 13 famous authors appear on their cards, and their prominent works are noted. Authors include Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, William Makepeace Thackeray, Robert Lewis Stevenson, William Shakespeare, James Fenimore Cooper, Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry Wordsworth Longfellow, Sir Walter Scott, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Louisa May Alcott, and Edgar Allen Poe. The deck of cards consists of thirteen sets of four cards each representing the works of thirteen famous authors. The object of the game is to form complete sets of the four cards comprising the works of a particular author. The winner is the player with the most sets.
