| Item Description :American Publishing Company, Hartford, Conn., 1869. Very scarce incomplete copy with countless first point of issues evident, excellent candidate for rebinding. The publisher's records show that the first batch of copies from the bindery included just 250 copies in sheep. Twain's second book. Copyright and title page missing, preface dated 1869. Countless first point of issue evident throughout, especially the earliest errors shown below. Book Includes 284 illustrations. Number of typographic errors, these are listed below. The fact of the errors should help in dating this edition. Reprinted editions such as The Library of America edition, notes by Guy Cardwell, has corrected these typos and includes a listing of the errors before the edition was reprinted (see page1000). I have gone through my book listing page and approximate line of the typos and these are listed and compared to the corrected version in the Library of America edition see below. Condition: Cover is loose. Table of contents is missing one sheet. List of illustrations states by Fay and Cox 105 Nassau St NY. total of 284 illustrations. Frontispiece full page picture of ship he traveled. Title page missing. Dedication, Preface, and contents sheets are loose. Chapter one through page 638 are original binding and are together. Pg 638 starts ChapterLX, Page 639/40 is loose, next page missing then one more sheet pp643/44 is start of chapter LXI and then the last page or so of the chapter is missing, Three page conclusion in my reference is not included here. Cover appears to have been leather, all of the characteristics are gone, aged out. No back spine cover, just the front and back boards. The loose pages show browning; the body of the book is in reasonable condition, no other significant damage, or markings noted other than owners name on blank front page and some meticulous owner carefully marked several letters into capitals on one page. Illustrations are a treasure themselves. Book is an ideal candidate for rebinding, with a potential value exceeding the $2500. Apparent first printing errors found in this particular volume . . .
