Methuen, (Devereux Books Series.), 1937. Second Edition (in today's parlance, would be considered the "second printing" of the First Edition which was published only months prior to this release.) Excellent condition, gray cloth with slightly sun darkened spine. Tightly bound and very clean throughout with the exception of - very neat and bold ownership signature of the iconic author and wildlife champion, George Adamson "G.A.G. Adamson, Game Dept., Isiolo, Dec. 1953" - who along with his wife Joy Adamson, shared their experiences of raising the lioness Else through their books and the films made from their "Born Free" series. The book offered here came from George Adamson's personal library and was inspirational in the future work that he would do for the remainder of his life. Illustrations and map. Protective plastic cover. This extremely scarce book is among the very earliest to describe wildlife in a non-combative and thoughtful manner. As someone who spent the vast majority of their life living in tent camps in the African bush, the library of George Adamson from where this book resided for many years, was obviously one that was both carefully selected and of great import to "Bwana Game" as Adamson was affectionately named. Obviously, an extreme rarity that would be heralded in any collection or make an heirloom quality gift for any conservation minded or wildlife supporter. 233 pages plus fold-out map.
