Binding is separating in front and back but is still intact. A very fine edition. Clean copy, all pages intact, some browning due to age, but nice clean engravings which are covered by onion skin. Some rubbing to cover and corners. In my opinion, very minor for a Bible that is 180 years old. Illustrated by steel plate maps, and Engravings. 3/4 brown leather w/gilt lettering;decs; all edges gilt; 1159 pages, plus 8 Family Record pages (not filled in) and 32 pages of Testimonials and Press opinions on this Bible. Total of over 1200 pages in all. Old and New Testaments arranged according to subjects in twenty seven books on the basis of Matthew Talbot as improved with indexes, tables and other valuable matter by Nathaniel West, D.D. Complete superb copy in 3/4 gilt brown period morocco with the Johnson's map of Palestine in hand color and the map of the Holy lands in color with superb original Thomas Nast steel engravings of Moses and Jesus and other holy sites. The engravings are from the original drawings by the celebrated artists Thomas Nast and F. B. Carpenter together with Cruden's Concordance to the Holy Scriptures revised by John Eadie D.D., LL.D., Prof of Bible Literature to the United Presbyterian Church, Scotland. The whole designed to facilitate the study and to promote the better understanding of the "Word of God" revised and edited by Prof. Roswell D. Hitchcock, D.D., LL.D., President of the Union Theological Seminary, New York City.
