Book produced to war time standards, thus printed on relatively thin stock, yet has endured the test of time much better than many more modern offerings.) Recognized as one of the milestones of English 20th century literature. An indictment of Stalins Russia in the guise of a "fairy story". Orwell remained a champion of the left, but his own experiences and lack of sentimentality soured him to the revolutionary experiments. And once he brings his formidable intellect use of the language to bear, it is hard to resist his arguments. The authors masterpiece and one of the most skillful allegorical novels of the twentieth century, which the author said "was the first book in which I tried, with full consciousness of what I was doing, to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole."
