The Vanguard Press, 1938. FIRST EDITION, early printing. The only other book listed as written by Dr. Seuss (on the title page just beneath Dr. Seuss' name) is AND TO THINK I SAW IT ON MULBERRY STREET which was published in 1937. THE SEVEN LADY GODIVAS and THE KINGS' STILTS, both published in 1939 are not mentioned. Note: the hats on the front end papers start small and get larger. The book has a picture cover, with pictoral end papers. Vintage children's book that is in very good condition. The boards are covered with a black paper with a pictoral of the red hat on both sides. The spine is covered with a red cloth. The cover shows some edge and corner wear. Two of the pages have a very small and very faint smudge mark on the page, but there are no other markings on the covers or on the pages.
